What Are The Elements of Value That Attract Investment

The ENET meeting on October 17, 2017, is devoted to setting goals for founders and entrepreneurs. A starting point will be defining the value proposition of your company’s product or service.

• Do you fix a problem that has real and measurable consequences to inaction?
• Is this problem a top priority to your target customer?
• Is the market significant?
• Is it under served?

To build value in your company you will be judged first on that value proposition, then the management team assembled, your technology, your customers, your business model and scaling potential to the market you serve. Under the lean start-up model, you build in small increments, then measure and learn and modify based on actual results from customers. In tech companies and especially in med tech and life science companies the management team is critical to move the company through the inevitable issues and quickly pivot to redirect engineering efforts to keep the company on track to meet designated milestones.

A key part of management’s ability to execute will be to manage cash, to reach inflection points (clinical or recognized customer impact), IP and franchise value (if applicable) to establish and achieve a favorable exit.

SPEAKERS:

David Fogel, Managing Director, Swifton CFOs LLC joined Swifton CFO’s in 2007. Swifton is an outsourced CFO and financial firm for emerging businesses. Industries currently include biotech, green, consumer marketing, and many web-based enterprises.

An active angel investor, David has been a Member / Member of Screening, Due Diligence Committees since 2009 for Mass Medical Angels (MA2), a seed stage investor group exclusively focused on life science and healthcare investments and for TiE Angels – Boston which he joined in 2013. TiE Angels Boston is an affiliate of the global TiE organization bringing together entrepreneurs and executives in the Boston market who are interested in investing in startup ventures in markets including Internet, Retail, B2B, Big Data, Mobile, Software and more.

He is an Adjunct Instructor of Business (Finance & Accounting) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and instructor in the MBA Corporate Education Program for both Biogen and United Technologies. David holds degrees from Miami University (Business) and the University of Cincinnati (MBA).

Lydia Schroter, CEO/Founder at LBS nX,llc, Managing Director, Golden Seeds, Cherrystone Angels.

Lydia has founded her own consulting and start up investment firm, advising and investing in technology and science based companies. She is a member of Golden Seeds, which is one of the nation’s most active angel investment firms and provides early-stage and growth capital to women-led business across all industry sectors. She is also a member of Cherrystone Angel Group in Providence. Prior to that, she has spent her career in banking, higher education and not-for-profit sectors as a senior ranking officer, developing her expertise in corporate finance, investment, operational and financial management and corporate governance. Her core technical competencies include financial analysis and management, operational and financial turn-around, organizational risk management, and Investment oversight. Born and educated in South Korea, Lydia also holds an MBA from Arizona State University.

Brigid Siegel is managing partner at Brigid Siegel Associates where she conducts retained executive searches. In this capacity, she focuses on finding and developing leaders as well as building effective managing teams which will guarantee success in any technology, life sciences or biotech field.

Brigid began her career in the high technology industry over 30 years ago and in executive search, 20 years ago. She was a partner and management consultant at Ward Howell, Inc., a partner at Polachi, a Managing Director with The Onstott Group, a Senior Partner at Heidrick & Struggles and a Vice President with Fenwick Partners. Throughout her retained executive search career Brigid has successfully completed numerous senior executive search assignments for clients ranging from emerging growth companies to multi-billion dollar corporations.

Brigid studied at Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Lowell Technological Institute. Her executive search industry expertise has been cited in the Boston Business Journal, the New York Post, as well as Hunt Scanlon’s Executive Recruiting Industry Newswire. She was also a member of the Executive Board of the WPI (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) Venture Forum for seven years and is currently a Boston ENET Vice Chairperson and an Executive Board member.
