Course:

Digital Signal Processing and Applications with the C6713 and the 6416 DSK

Lecturer:

D. Richard Brown III

Date:

9:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday, August 22 & Tuesday, August 23

Location:

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Worcester Campus, MA
Atwater Bldg., Room AK 227

Text:

“Digital Signal Processing and Applications with the C6713 and the C6416 DSK”, Rulph Chassaing, J. Wiley, 2005 (Retail Price $115). Free with Registration.
Additional materials will be provided DSK: DSP Board and CCS (complete software/hardware tools). Free with Registration ($395 value,) Lunch included with registration

This course will be held at WPI in a Lab environment using a hands-on approach.  The Laboratory facility (which includes:  PC, DSK, signal generator, scope, spectrum analyzer) is where the Speaker teaches “Real-time DSP” at both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels at WPI.

Intended Audience:

Faculty, engineers, and engineering managers interested in tools, techniques, and applications of digital signal processing (DSP).

Enrollment:

Limited to 22 (two participants per station).

Benefits:

Digital signal processors have found their way into a number of applications such as communications and controls, speech and image processing. Participants will be introduced to many DSP applications.

Background:

High-level language such as C/C++ and basic linear systems.

Course Outline:

Course materials are based on Instructor’s new book, “Digital Signal Processing and Applications with the C6713 and the C6416 DSK” published by Wiley, 2005.  Topics will include:

  • Introduction to Code Composer Studio as an integrated development environment

  • Architecture of the C6x floating-point processor

  • Programming the TMS320C6713 processor on the DSK

  • Implementation of waveform signals, fixed-and adaptive filters, the fast Fourier transform (FFT)

  • Real-Time Data Transfer (RTDX)- to provide an interface between PC and DSK

  • DSP applications

Bio:

D. Richard Brown III joined Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2000 as an Assistant Professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering after receiving the Ph.D. degree in 2000 from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He was also employed by the General Electric Company, Plainville, CT as a Development Engineer from 1992 to 1997. His active research areas include communication systems, networking, and digital signal processing and he has taught several courses at WPI including real-time digital signal processing, communication systems, and embedded system design at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
