Intended Audience: Practicing electrical engineers and business executives interested in an overview of the RFID technology, its applications and business impacts as well as both electrical engineering and business students. Benefits: Utilization of RFID technology is seeing a dramatic increase at the present time, the most publicized example being Wal-Mart’s requirement that their top 100 suppliers put an RFID tag on every palette. Participants will receive a thorough tutorial on the technology itself, including both hardware and software aspects. They also will gain an understanding from a business perspective of why this technology is exploding in popularity. Background: For the first Saturday, an understanding of basic electrical engineering concepts will be helpful. The remaining sessions do not have a required background. Bios: Charles Kochakian: RFID Systems Development. He holds a BSEE from Merrimack College and an MS from MIT with an extensive record of engineering and teaching experience ranging from electronics design to system integration and test and program management. Ashley Stephenson: CEO and Co-Founder of Riva Systems, Chelmsford, MA, a developer of intelligent, network-centric products for the RFID Market. He holds a Physics degree from Imperial College, London. He has served on the Board of Directors of several venture-backed startups and industry consortia. John Shoemaker: VP of Business Development, Symbol Technology. He has over 20 years experience in the RFID field, holding senior management positions at Amtech, Intermec Technologies, Transcore and Matrics Technology. Michael Ohanian: Retired President of Intermec Technologies, Everett WA - the largest barcode company in the global industrial market. He holds a BSEE from Merrimack College and is a leading expert in microelectronics and automated identification technology. Mr. Ohanian serves on the Board of Advisors for several High Tech companies involved in RFID technology.
