Lecture Invitation:
The IEEE Boston Reliability
chapter invites you to a 3 night lecture series, developed to introduce
attendees to concepts & assessment methods used in Software Reliability
assessment. The instructor for this course is Steve Rakitin, recognized as
an opinion leader on Software Reliability. Steve will be sharing his
guidance to the Reliability technical community, providing insight into
software Quality, development and optimization all which effect System
Reliability.
Lecture Description:
The first night of the
lecture series will include concept overviews and some of the quality
based methods that are in use today to assess Software Reliability.
Attendees will be polled at
the end of night one to determine which topics listed below will be
presented by Steve for nights two and three:

A Holistic approach to
software reliability

Steven R. Rakitin is the
president of Software Quality Consulting Inc. He has over 30 years
experience as a software engineer and software quality manager in a broad
range of industries. He received a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering
from Northeastern University and a Master’s in Computer Science from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has earned certifications from the
American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Software Quality Engineer (CSQE)
and Quality Auditor (CQA). He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and
the ASQ. He is on the Editorial Review Board for the ASQ Journal Software
Quality Professional and was one of the authors of the first IEEE Standard
for Software Quality Assurance Plans (IEEE-STD -730). He has written
several papers on the subject of software quality and recently published a
book titled: “Software Verification & Validation for Practitioners and
Managers” which is provided at cost as an option to students, as part of
this lecture series. Steve is active in the IEEE Boston Section & IEEE
computer society, offering bag lunch seminars, presentations & various
software quality short courses. He has also provided papers & lectures
regularly at several conferences sponsored by the IEEE, ASQ & Boston SPIN
(Software Process Improvement Network).
Course Materials
Printed handouts of the
lecture series will be provided and Steve’s book: “Software Verification
& Validation for Practitioners and Managers” is offered at cost ($65.00)
for registered attendees, as an option.
Directions:
Classes will be held on
Tuesday - Thursday, April 24, 25, and 26 at EMC Corporation, 176 South St.
Hopkinton MA. Each session will begin with dinner & refreshments at 5:30
PM, with the lectures starting at 6:00 PM. IEEE members and non-members
are welcome to attend. To register, complete the registration form, with
check or credit card information & mail it care of Eddie Robins, EMC
Corporation. The Registration deadline & course “go / no go” date is
April 6th, 2007.
EMC Corporation is located
at 176 South Street, Hopkinton, MA. From Rte. 495 North or South take
exit 21B, West Main Street. At the end of the ramp head west. At the
first set of traffic lights (after the on/off ramp) take a left onto South
Street. 176 will be on your right about 1.5 miles up South Street. There
is a traffic light at the entrance. Proceed up the hill, bear left to the
Main entrance parking lot which will then be on your right.
