Attendees will have access to the recorded session and exercises for two months (until Ma y 28\, 2024) after the last live session ends! IEEE Member Early Rate (by February 15): $190.00 IEEE Member Rate (after February 15th): $ 285.00 IEEE Non-Member Early Rate (by February 15): $210.00 IEEE Non-Memb er Rate (after February 15): $315.00 Decision to run/cancel course: Thur sday\, February 22\, 2024 Speaker: Dan Boschen This is a hands-on course combining pre-recorded lectures with live Q&A and workshop sessions in the popular and powerful open-source Python programming language. Pre-Recorde d Videos: The course format includes pre-recorded video lectures that stu dents can watch on their own schedule\, and an unlimited number of times\, prior to live Q&A workshop sessions on Zoom with the instructor. The vide os will also be available to the students for viewing for up to two months after the conclusion of the course. Overview: Dan provides simple\, strai ght-forward navigation through the multiple configurations and options\, p roviding a best-practices approach for quickly getting up to speed using P ython for modelling and analysis for applications in signal processing and digital design verification. Students will be using the Anaconda distribu tion\, which combines Python with the most popular data science applicatio ns\, and Jupyter Notebooks for a rich\, interactive experience. The course begins with basic Python data structures and constructs\, including key “ Pythonic” concepts\, followed by an overview and use of popular packages f or scientific computing enabling rapid prototyping for system design. Duri ng the course students will create example designs including a sigma delta converter and direct digital synthesizer both in floating point and fixed point. This will include considerations for cycle and bit accurate models useful for digital design verification (FPGA/ASIC)\, while bringing forwa rd the signal processing tools for frequency and time domain analysis. Ju pyter Notebooks: This course makes extensive use of Jupyter Notebooks whic h combines running Python code with interactive plots and graphics for a r ich user experience. Jupyter Notebooks is an open-source web-based applica tion (that can be run locally) that allows users to create and share visua lly appealing documents containing code\, graphics\, visualizations and in teractive plots. Students will be able to interact with the notebook conte nts and use “take-it-with-you” results for future applications in signal p rocessing. Target Audience: This course is targeted toward users with lit tle to no prior experience in Python\, however familiarity with other mode rn programming languages and an exposure to object-oriented constructs is very helpful. Students should be comfortable with basic signal processing concepts in the frequency and time domain. Familiarity with Matlab or Octa ve is not required\, but the equivalent operations in Python using the Num Py package will be provided for those students that do currently use Matla b and/or Octave for signal processing applications. Benefits of Attending / Goals of Course: Attendees will gain an overall appreciation of using P ython and quickly get up to speed in best practice use of Python. All set- up information for the installation of all tools will be provided before t he start of class. Topics / Schedule: Pre-recorded lectures (3 hours each ) will be distributed Friday prior to all Workshop dates. Workshop/ Q&A Se ssions are 6pm-7:30pm on the dates listed below: Kick-off / Orientation: February 29\, 2024 Thursday\, March 7\, 2024 Topic 1: Intro to Jupyter Not ebooks\, the Spyder IDE and the course design examples. Core Python constr ucts. Thursday\, March 14\, 2024 Topic 2: Core Python constructs\; iterato rs\, functions\, reading writing data files. Thursday\, March\, 21\, 2024 Topic 3: Signal processing simulation with popular packages including NumP y\, SciPy\, and Matplotlib. Dr. Daniel Renner Agenda: 6:00 pm Networking starts 6:15 pm Light meals served 7:00 pm Seminar starts Photonic integration has been at the center of photonic activity for several years. Over this period\, great st rides have been made to increase the integration density and integrated ch ip functionality. This talk will work its way up from the drivers for phot onic integration – why do we need Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs)? Wha t are their similarities and differences with Electronic Integrated Circui ts (EICs)? This analysis of integration drivers will lead to a discussion of recent progress on the main paths: monolithic\, heterogeneous and hybri d. The talk will conclude with possible approaches to meet the additional demanding considerations for future Quantum PICs. Bio: Dr. Daniel Renner g rew up in the southern part of Chile\, in South America. He received his B achelor of Engineering Degree from the Universidad de Chile and then\, in his early twenties\, he went to the University of Cambridge in England to do a Ph.D. in opto-electronics\, a new field of studies at the time. Now\, decades later\, he has lived through the whole range of experiences that relate to the research\, development\, manufacturing and commercialization of complex photonic devices and systems\, used in communication\, sensor and industrial applications. In the past 30 years\, Daniel has been direct ly involved with the growth of four photonic start-ups in the United State s\, Ortel Corporation\, Agility Communications\, Aerius Photonics and Free dom Photonics.
